Flagship 7000‑series and compact 1500‑2200 models – amplifier, tuner, cassette, CD, and turntable service
I'm the owner and lead technician at TEK Media Group, specializing in Bang & Olufsen restoration since 1994. The Beocenter 7000, 7002, 7007, and 7700 represent B&O's top‑of‑line integrated systems from the late 70s through the 80s, featuring high‑power amplifiers, advanced cassette decks, and optional tangential turntables. The later compact models (1500, 1800, 2000, 2200) brought B&O quality to smaller footprints, often including CD players. I offer complete restoration: full recap, amplifier rebuild, tape deck transport service, CD laser replacement, tuner alignment, and mechanical calibration. Every Beocenter receives my personal attention. I serve customers nationwide – ship your system to my Los Angeles facility.
| Area | Symptoms | Affected models | Typical fix |
|---|---|---|---|
| Power supply capacitors | Hum, intermittent power, no start | All | Full recap (low‑ESR, 105°C) |
| Cassette capstan belt | Playback slow, stops, eats tapes | All with tape deck | Replace belt and pinch roller |
| CD laser (CDM‑9/12) | Skips, no disc, error message | 1500,1800,2000,2200, some 7007 | Replace laser pickup or mechanism |
| Turntable belt / arm rails | Platter won't spin, arm stuck | 7700, optional on 7000 | Belt replacement, rail cleaning/lube |
| Function microswitches | Button presses don't respond | 7000‑series | Clean or replace microswitches |
| Amplifier output relay | One channel dead, protection mode | All | Relay replacement, check DC offset |
The 7000‑series uses a heavy‑duty transport with separate capstan motor and reel motor. The compact models (1500‑2200) use a unified motor with belt drive to both capstan and reel. I replace all belts with exact‑spec replacements, clean the tape path, demagnetize heads, and adjust azimuth and speed using a test tape.

📻 Beocenter legacy: The 7000‑series set the standard for high‑end integrated systems in the late 70s and 80s, combining powerful amplification with advanced tape decks and optional turntables. The compact 1500‑2200 series brought B&O quality to smaller homes. Today, all suffer from age‑related capacitor failures, belt deterioration, and CD laser wear. My restoration service brings them back to full original performance, preserving these Danish design icons.
